Dearest Srivaishnavas,

Thanks a million to Sriman Varadan Swamin for his soul stirring excellent
series on Sri Manavala maamuni. We would never have known about swamy's
greatness if such learned BhAgawathas do not write. Thanks very much Sri
Varadan. It is great that he has broken his long silence and is pouring
with such divine posts. adiyEn just wants to supplement for the sake of
begineers like me in the list:

After leaving kanchipuram, sri nayanar went back to srirangam, where he
felt that the grhastashrama
life was an impediment to perform unimpeded kainkarya to the Lord. So, he
took permission
from Lord ranganatha and took sanyasashramam from srI. satakOpa jIyar, a
contemporary of
him and a great jiyar of the ramanuja sampradaya who was residing in
srirangam then.

SrI SatakOpa jIyar (who gave kaashaayam to Sri AMP Nayanar) was none other
than the founder of SrImad Ahobila Mutt. He is the First Azhagiya Singar.
Today, after about 600 yeras, we are blessed with the 45th Pattam Srimad
Azhagiya Singar. What beautiful lineages we are blessed with! How
intertwined they have all been in the past, in the present and (should be
and will be) in the future too!

As Sri Varadam mentioned in his eerlier email, Sri Nayanar attended Sri
BhAshyam kaalakshepam from SrI KidAmbhi nAyanar. He was one of disciples in
the lineage of Sri Vedantha Desikan. Sri Manavala maamuni had highest
regard for Swamy Desikan and he used to refer to Swamy Desikan with
affection as "abhiyukthar" (the most reverred one). It is however
unfortunate that polarization of the great Sri Vaishnavam took place
clearly a couple of centuries after these Great AchAryAs.

Swamy Manavaala maamunigaL's Artthi prabhandham will bring tears to one's
eyes. So divine and excellent are they!
Please keep up and continue to send such beautiful posts, SrI Varadan.
