Re: Digest Number 434- Tridanda samarpanam

I was blessed to read the eyewitness account of NavaTridandaParimandanam
of Jagadguru SriRamanujacharya at sri Perumboodhur under the supervision of
Sri Sadagopan swamy's sister. The day was the dasami Aridrai with
Vyatipata in Mahalaya paksha. I read in Itihasopanishat that

	KanyaagatE savitari tishthanthi pitarO grihE
	...
	dinE dinE gayAtulyam bharaNyAm gayapanchakE
	Dasatulyam vyatipatE pakshamadhyE tu vimshati:
	DvAdashyam shatamityAhu: amAvAsyam sahasrakam
	Ashvayuk shuklapakshasya dvitIyAm ayutham phalam
	...
	tasmAt sarvaprayatnEna kuryAt ShrAddham mahAlayam

 which means

Come Kanyaamasam or Perattashi and the pitrudevas will start
camping in their corresponding houses in the bhoolokam. (Another sloka
says that they stay till the start of Vrishikam or Karthigai.) (Mahalaya
paksha normally falls within or close to Kanyamasam. Everyday is equal to
Gaya in greatness. Bharani in mahalaya is equal to five gayas. That is why
it is normally written in almanac as Mahabharani. On vyatIpata day it is
equal to 10 Gayas. It is termed as MahavyatIpata. Pakshamadhyam or Ashtami
is equal to 20 gayas in power. It is called MadhyAshtami. Dvadasi in
mahalayapaksha is equal to one hundred gayas and Mahalaya Amavasya is
equal to one thousand gayas. That is why by all efforts one should conduct
Mahalaya shrAddha. Then the dvitIya of Aswayuja Suklapaksha following
Mahalaya Amavasya is having the power of 10,000 Gayas!!

If any Swami knows more about these aspects I request that more light may
be thrown on this topic.

By the way sriRamanujacharya's avatarasamayam was mentioned by sri
Sadagopan as Chitthirai masam, etc when Aridra constellation was in
ascendancy. Here is a clarification needed. The rasi in which the Sun is,
is the solar month of birth. The rasi in which the moon is determines the
star of the jatakam. The rasi that is rising in the east or is ascending
is the Lagnarasi. Applying this here, since it is Chitthirai masam, the
sun was in Mesha rasi and so the birth month is mesha or chitthirai. Since
the moon was in Mithuna rasi near Aridra star, Sriramanujacharya's star
was Aridra. It is incorrect to say that Aridra was in ascendancy unless
moon was in mithuna rasi and simultaneously mithuna rasi was in the
ascendancy also. Since we have no info here about the lagna rasi,
we cannot say so. I am sorry to raise this point if it is trivial. I hope
it is a point worth noting.
