Dear Bhagavatas:

It used to be said (rather in a lighter vein) that the Lord (as Sri Rama) was
so impressed by the success of Hanuman in the role of a Dhootha that he wanted
to play the role Himself. That is why, in Krishna Avatara, he tried His best
and went as Paandava Dhootha. Unfortunately, he could not succeed in his
mission of stopping the fight while Hanuman succeeded in his mission of
finding out Sri Sita!

On a different note, however, the Avatara Rahasya in both cases had to be
served by the different results!
