Introduction

From the Bhakti List Archives

• May 7, 2001

I am Jean-Luc Chevillard, from Paris (France).

I am a linguist specialized in the Tamil grammatical tradition
and have made a translation into French
of cEn2Avaraiyam that was published
by the French Institute of Pondicherry
  (see at <http://www.ifpindia.org/Indo/indopubtamil.htm>)

Since 1997, I have been involved in a multimedia
project that aims at making available to the public
an unpublished translation of Tevaram by the late
V.M.Subrahmanya Ayyar
(see at <http://www.linguist.jussieu.fr/~chevilla/WriteUp.pdf>)

I recently started a discussion group at Yahoo!
called CTamil, for the purpose of discussing with other
interested parties the intricacies of Classical Tamil
(see at <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CTamil>)

While taking part in the discussions, a participant
mentionned one "Project Madurai", which I found useful
(see at <http://www.tamil.net/projectmadurai/>)

After this, I realized there must already be a lot
of scholarly information online. As a matter of fact,
I discovered this bhakti-list through a search engine.

My intention is to sit silently and browse the bhakti-list archives
in order to perfect my understanding of Middle Tamil.
Eventually, I might try to clear some doubt on Tamil usage
as found in the divya prabhandam verses,
by asking a question.

Thanks to the moderator for accepting me to this list
and warm regards to the list members.
