dear bhaagavatas,
lets continue onwards with surdas...

ONLY KRISHNA, NO OTHER

Chant Krishna's name alone,
none other can free you
from life's bondage.

Life after life
you heaped sin on sin,
now only the sharp axe-shaped
name of Krishna
can cleave them.

The uncrossable sea of worldly existence
can be crossed only by the boat
of Krishna-devotion-this is the essence
of what the Vedas, Puranas and the Gita say.

So start praying to the Lord this very minute,
or your life will go to waste.
Says Suradasa, if you blow the chance
it may never again come your way.



SEEK GOD WITHIN YOURSELF

O mind, know yourself.
you remained deluded
life after life,
when will you shake off this spoofery,
if not today?

The musk-deer smelling musk
runs here, there and everywhere
in search of it,
not knowing that it is within him.

So too we search for God
outside ourselves
unaware
that he is seated in our hearts.

When the devotee knows God,
then alone
delusion's veil is lifted from his mind.

Says Suradasa, be as the water
which washes away all dyes
and makes the cloth white:
fix your wandering mind
on the Almighty;
thus alone
will you be purified.
