Teliyatha Marai Nilangal Teligindrome-10

Having sung EmperumanÂ’s Paratvam repeatedly, the
Upanishad moves on to codify the other attributes that
contribute to Paratvam, in the second half of the
fifth mantra-
“yet Ekam avyaktam ananta roopam viswam purAnam
tamasa: parastAt”
“Ekam”-At the time of PralayA, with all beings
subsiding in Him, Emperuman presents the picture of
one undifferentiated , single entity. This state of
Paramatma is portrayed by Sri Nammazhwar thus- “Eka
moorthi”
“oozhi mudalvan oruvanE”
“tAnor uruvE “, tanian “, “ oru moortiyAi” etc.

“ananta roopam”, “ visvam”- Emperuman does not
relish His single state (« sa EkAkee na ramata ») and
in his infinite mercy, creates beings by assuming , as
the upAdAna kAraNA, countless forms and shapes as
humans, animals, birds and infinite other creatures
and things that comprise this diverse universe..
Listen to Kurugur NambiÂ’s words on this-
“”Eka moorti iru moorti moondru moorti pala moorti
aagi”
« neerAi nilanAi teeyAi kAlAi neduvAnAi,
seerar sudargal irandAi sivanAi ayanAnAi » etc.
_« avyaktam »--This refers to the imperceptibility of
Brahman to human faculties. While there is an
elaboration of this concept in the mantras to follow,
this part of the mantra lays the foundation by placing
the Paramatma beyond the grasp of human senses
(indriya agrAhyam). As even the veda purusha finds it
impossible to capture His true measure, we poor
mortals, with our faulty faculties, hardly stand a
chance.
“nigamAntai: adunApi mrigyamANam” says Swami Desikan.
This is portrayed by Sri Nammazhwar thus-
“uNarndu uNarNdu uNarilum irai nilai uNarvaridu”
« yArum Or nilaimayan ena arivariya emperuman »
“aridal aarkkum ariyAnai”, evarkkum sindaikkum
gOcharam allan”
« pulan aindukkum solappadAn”etc.

                         « PurANam » Paramatma is
ancient,without a beginning (anAdi).
                         “dEvarkatku ellAm viruddhA”,
“yAdum evarkkum munnOn”, “ulagukku Or mundai” etc. are
the equivalents in the DrAvida vedam.

  -to be continued- dasan,sadagopan.
