SrI:
SrImathE rAmAnujAya namah:
Dearest Srivaishnavas,

After crawling, the baby KaNNan raises his body with the support of his
hands and knees on the ground; and he moves his body to and fro. It is
called “senkeerai Adhudhal” Either the child dances (moves) on His own or
moved by elders as well. Aduga senkeerai; Aduga AdugavE.. is the line used
by AzhwAr in all verses of this ten. Enjoyable as usual. Rhyming.

Oh Lord! One who has the most beautiful stomach, in which you create and
take back to retain, for the chethanas (Jivathmas) to be saved (during
mahApraLaya- cosmic dissolution)! For time immemorial, you have been slowly
and steadily having Your Yoga nithrA (during praLaya) on a little Banyan
leaf! Oh Lord! The One who has the most beautiful divine ThirumEni (Body)
with large red lotus eyes! Swamy! You have Periya PiraaTTi Mahalakshmi
residing in Your Chest always. Think of that and with your bright ear studs
shedding more glitter, move your ThirumEni to and fro for me again. (Aduga
senkeerai Aduga AduhavE. )

OOzhi thORoozhi OOzhi- Very Many mahA praLayams- He is there always from
time immemorial. He is Paraman; ParamAthmA. He mercifully keeps all beings
and non-beings during praLaya and saves them by swallowing them and
retaining them in His stomach, having his Yoga nithrA. PiraaTTi is referred
to. Sicne the divine chest will not be much disturbed in your movement, you
can dance so.

Oh Lord! One who tore the body of hiraNyakasipu with His sharp nails getting
the blood inside out, taking the form of lion faced huge form (Nrusimha
avataar) to make the BhagawathaÂ’s words true (PrahaladaÂ’s)! During
Govardhana Pooja, when DevEndran angered and sent torrential rains on
Gokulam, You lifted effortlessly the Govardhana mountain to save the cattle
and the cowherd folks from heavy downpour! Oh Master! Aduga senkeerai..
Aduga AdugavE..

The Lord made not only the words of Prahalada; also did he make the words of
Chathur muka brahmA when he gave away the boon to HiraNya kasipu. He took
the form; the time, the weapon (nails- which are alive as well as dead-
meaning nails do not have life, as when we cut, it does not pain; and still
it has life as it grows) the place (neither inside the house nor outside- at
the entrance; neither on the ground nor in the sky.. on his lap..). Also Sri
Manavala MamunigaL mentioned that (as given by Sri UttamUr Swamy) “The Lord
came in such a way that made HiraNyakasipu think of the truthful words of
Prahalada (at the time of his death).

Our Lord! The essence and meaning of Vedas! The most merciful and most
compassionate motherly Lord by killing Madhu kaitabhar and gave the Vedas to
Chathur muka brahmA! The One who grew so huge in Trivikrama avtaar touching
and cutting across all worlds above and below! The One who killed the
Kuvalayaapeetam elephant and the angry seven bulls at the instant when they
came to fight! Swamy! Aduga senkeerai Aduga AdugavE..

In this pAsuram, LordÂ’s SarvEshwarathvam, who is the meaning of all Vedas.
His Supreme Lordship getting back the Vedas. Emperumaan is the meaning of
Vedas. Hence, he saved the Vedas for our sake; for us to get to know the
meaning of Vedas- i.e. Him. He took the TrivikramAvtaar as the Only One who
can grow touching all worlds.

To the joy of Devas in the upper world, you kicked SakatAsura rolling to His
death; you sucked the life of Poothana! You took the calf (dhEnukAsurA who
came in such form) and hit it against the tree of viLA (viLAmpazha tree-)
Oh male elephant of cowherd group! One who killed the cruel NarakAsuran,
murAsura, dhEnuka asurA and others so valorously in the battle field! Dance
for me. Aduga senkeerai Aduga AdugavE..

Oh Lord! The Smartest One who stole the butter and ghee prepared and stored
by long haired cowherd women; who later got caught and tied to a mortar and
crawled in between the two marudha trees that stood – and made them fall
using his thighs and hands to push them down. My father! with those dense
black tresses of yours moving here and there (due to the body movements),
the hair like the ornament on and prelude to that smiling charming beautiful
divine face, dance for me. Aduga senkeerai Aduga AdugavE.

Are those two marudha trees AsurAs? – Due to Narada’s curse (saapam) the
sons of KubEra became the trees in Nandhan’s backyard. – says SrImad
Bhagawatham. Thus, though they just stood there as trees for being saved by
KaNNan, the cowherd group considered them as asurAs (with an apprehension
always because the asuRAs enter into the wheel, the calf etc.. to kill
KaNNan) due to their intense love and concern for Kutti. AzhwAr aalso
follows the same as he too is concerned. (in 3.1.3, AzhwAr says: poimmAya
marudhAna vasuraraai).

Oh kaayaampoo coloured Lord! (dark blue hued colour) dark cloud coloured
One! In the middle of the forest, and in the middle of the pond, you learnt
dancing (to the joy of everyone who saw and who hear about that dance) on
the heads of the poisonous snake KaaLingan. My beautiful small darling boy!
The One who broke the strong tusker of angry elephant Kuvalayaapeetam! The
One who destroyed the wrestlers (who had come to fight with KaNNan in order
to get some benefits from Kamsa) and jumped dancing on the bed of Kamsa with
the apir of Your Lotus Feet! Oh Cowherd lion! Dance for me. Aduga senkeerai
Aduga AdugavE.

AzhwAr says: He learnt dancing on KaaLingan. When KaaLinganÂ’s (1000) heads
one by one raised in anger to exhale poisonous fumes, KuttI KaNNan stepped
on each one and it looked as if he takes efforts to dance and take steps.
Perhaps, all KaaLinganÂ’s heads wanted His touch. Then, the dance is on the
bed of Kamsa where the staging of His dance has completed it appears.

Once, when playing with Gopikas, for getting Nappinnai PiraaTTi (who is the
most beautiful Peacock and the dark haired girl), and making the words of
cowherd folksÂ’ true, He victoriously destroyed the seven strong bulls and
became the husband of pure hearted Nappinnai PiraaTTi. For getting back the
missing son of VaidIka Brahmin from His own Paramapadham, He rode the bright
chariot to Paramapadham and brought back the sons to the motherly figure, -
wife of Brahmin. My father! Dance for me. Aduga senkeerai Aduga AdugavE.

The cowherd folks right from his childhood decided that Nappinnai PiraaTTi,
the most beautiful One is only for KaNNan and hence made such a tough test
for the Boys to get married to her so that none others can do it. KaNNan
only could do it. (Yaadhavaabhyudhayam- 4.98) The Pure NappiNNai – whether
He kills the seven bulls or not, He is her husband only – hence pure heart.

thani- Singly – separately- meaning: the sons entered through a different
route and hence not through archiraadhi maargam. They went unlike other
samsaaris; while nor like mukthas via Archiraadhi maargam. It seems the
Paramapdha vaasis and BhU nilA Devis wanted to see KaNNan in His vivhava
avatar and hence did this to get KaNNan in his form at Paramapadham.

Oh Lord of ThirukkuRunkudi! Lord of ThiruveLLarai! King of
ThirumaalirunchOlai! Enjoyment residing in ThirukaNNapuram! One who removes
and alleviates my klEsam (sorrows)! Even You (who is never left by me- says
YasOdhA) are carried in the waists by the women folks and they play with you
to their heart content – those unmarried girls are so happy spending their
time with you- Seeing that the learned scholars and poets start singing and
come stumbling for words (due to their overexcitement and happiness). Have
mercy on me the mother and dance dear for me. Aduga senkeerai Aduga AdugavE

I said no and still these girls forcibly grab you from me and carry you on
their hips. They start dancing, jumping and playing with you. You also make
them do all sorts of game with you. Hide and seek, laughing, beating, etc..
Even to just simply see such playful pranks of yours is fun. The eyes are
blessed to do that. In spite of learning, one can not describe the joy of
what they see in words. You do anything with those girls. But please be
obedient and dance for me Kutti..

Oh essence and the meaning of Vedas! The milk, curd and ghee that you had
eaten; the sandal, the fragrant flowers, the lotus, the precious pacchai
kaRpooram that you wear – spread great fragrance when you come dancing to
and fro). the most beautiful and fragrant red coral like lips, inside which
the ivory like milk white teeth so cute and small ones glittering; and the
overall divine blue hued lovely ThirumEni with the five weapons (Pancha
Ayudhams); dance for me with sweet nectarine sulliva from the red coral
like mouth flowing out . Aduga senkeerai Aduga AdugavE

Vedas are the ultimate PramANam (proof). The Lord – the meaing and essence
of Vedas- is the Ultimate PramEyam (the Goal) for us. Vedas are nithyam
(Permanent); The Lord is Nithyan- ever existing as Supreme. Vedaas like the
Lord is also of great compassion towards us. It also take avatar of
Ramayana, like the Lord taking Rama KrishNA avatar. This Tamil Vedas which
describe Him so beautifully is also great and grand and is referred to here.
– Says Sri UttamUr Swamy.

the golden waist rope (araijnAN) and the gem stone intertwined with golden
stone ornaments worn on Your divine Body; the rings in the fingers and
bangles on the wrists; the ornaments of Pancha Ayudhas; the ear studs and
the forehead chutti hanging so charmingly. Dance with all these ornaments in

Koorma, and others! Oh Lord of cowherd folks! The One who removes our
sorrows! Dance! Swamy of all seven worlds! Keep dancing and come here moving
thereby to and fro- come towards me! In the words of Hamsa like gaited
YasOdhA, Sri VilliputthUr Bhattan (PeriyAzhwAr) has sung in the most
enjoyable Tamil words set to music these ten pAsurams (verses). Those who
can recite them (or read these translations) will be blessed to obtain all
fame across the worlds in all directions.
