Dear Sri Sadagopan and Members of our group:

In reading over some of the emails that I missed
I came across this message. From what I recall
(I do not have my reference materials with me right
now) the kUra-nArAyaNa-jIyar who is the author of the
famed 'sudarSana-Satakam' lived in the period between
Sri Parasara Bhattar and Sri Vedanta Desika. This
places him in approximately the early part of the
13th century. kUra-nArAyaNa-jIyar played a major
role in Srirangam and was instrumental (if I recall
correctly) in the construction of the sudarSana shrine
there. Given his time period, he predates the schism
between the sub-schools of Sri Ramanuja sampradAya.

I am not sure whether this kUra-nArAyaNa is
the same as the author of the upanishad-bhAshyas.
I will check on this when I get the chance.

According to Sri Puttur Krishnaswami Iyengar, Sri Desika's
references to a 'periya jIyar' in SrImad rahasya-traya-sAram
are ostensibly to this kUra-nArAyaNa-jIyar. This is a
matter of dispute as most scholars of the Vadagalai tradition
think Desika's mention of a 'periya jIyar' refer to nanjIyar.

Mani
