SrI:

Dearest Sisters and Brothers,

The pAsurams of Thondaradippodi AzhwAr about cutting heads off are
referred to and are being discussed in the group. Sri badri's post was
superb and well explained on the context. But, it is sitll to be further
understood that AzhwAr , as Sri Mani beautifully pointed out, was
frustrated at the suroundings and other sects (non-saastraic) spreading
and spanning their philosophy and misleading the gullible.

So out of such frustration, one can say such statements. Afte rall, he
was so human that he sings lovely verses on his "helplessness", "his
vEsham" (vilaavaRa chiritthittEnE!- He laughs at his own vEsham ) etc..
His kArpanyam" naichiyam, are well known.

Even we at times, tell our own sons, spouses, friends when we are in the
midst of argument or anger, "I just feel like strangling you for that- I
feel like thrashing you". If not loud, at least in our minds(!).

Before concluding just one look at two of this AzhwAr's GREAT PASURAMS
and let us get blessed by the AzhwAr.

1. "OorilEn kANiyillai; uRavu maRRu oruvar illai;/
pAril nin pAtha moolam paRRilEn parama moorthee;/
kAroLi vaNNanE (en) kaNNanE! kadharuginREn;/
AruLar kaLaikaN ammA! arngamA nagaruLAnE!/"

Meaning: I have no place; no properties; no relatves; none other than
you; I know only your Lotus feet; O Lord of Blue hued sky colour! You
only are my refuge. Can you not hear my cries? Is there any one else to
save me except you?"

2. "manatthil Or thUymai illai; vaakilOr insollillai"....punatthuzhhay
maalaiyaanE! ponni soozh thiruvarangaa! enakku ini yen gathi sollaay!
ennai aLudaiya kOvE!" (I forgot the second line)

Meaning: I am not pure in my mind; I do not speak good words; Oh Lord of
Thiruvarangam (Sri Rangam!), What is the salvation for me? Please tell
me.

AzhwAr is so soft, tender, a great bhakthA and highly human. (Even
though he was an incarnate of vanamaalaa of Lord Narayanan)

With Best Regards
