SrI:
SrImathE Gopaladesika Mahadesikaya namah:
Dear Sri Selvanarayana Ramanuja, (what a beautiful Thirunaamam!)

Thanks for your good post on ThoNdaradippodi AzhwAr's mEmporuL pAsuram on
his TN (Birthday) today. adiyEn would like to supplement on "mEmporuL"
pAsuram referred to by Swamy Sri Vedantha Desikan.

Swami Desikan's refers to ThirukkaNNamangai ANdAn for this PAsuram in his
"sillaRai rahasyam".

ThirukkaNNamangai ANdAn is the one who composed thaniyan for nAacchiyAr
Thirumozhi and he was a great scholar, JnAni , who understood the "
mEmporuL " very well . It appears he had chosen to clean the corridors
(prAkArams) and the front of the temple of the Lord SrI Bhakthavatsala
PerumAL and abhishekavalli thAyAr at the Divya desam of ThirukkaNNamangai.

He was a a treu " Vaazhum sombhar " as he did not live for himself , but
lived only for the service to Divya Dampathi.
He did not care about his personal comforts. He consdiered others (who were
and are running amuck after material and sensual desires) as "kedum
sOmbhar" who were the opposite of "Vaazhum sOmbhar". (vaazhum sOmbar- lazy
ones who will live...(blessed) and kedum sOmbar- lazy ones who will
perish.. (meaning be born again and again) )

The keum sOmbhar are the ones who live only for themselves and not for the
Lord and His consort. They are tempted and deluded by the loka vAsanAs, as
they do not know or understand the jIvAthma svarUpam properly and hence do
not perform the kaimkaryam which is by nature belongs to jIvan as a matter
of right. Being a sEshan is our duty, right and enjoyable. Sriman NArAyaNA
supports and controls all jIvAtmAs, and all the jIvAtmAs exist purely for
His enjoyment. Thus, the very essential nature (svaroopam) of a jIvAtmA is
to perform kainkaryam to Sriman NArAyaNA for His pleasure and performance
of any other activity doesn't conform to its nature. This implies that
baddha jIvAtmAs are like fish out of water , suffering in the material
world by not living according to their actual natur. hence kedum sOmbars.

They have dhEhAbhimAnam unlike the Vazhum sOmbhar like ThirukkaNNamangai
ANdAn, who has paripoorNa swarUpa jnAnam (of being a servant of the Lord at
all times)
Swamy Sri ThirukkaNNamangai ANdAn engaged himself in Sannadhi Kaimkaryams
of cleaning the the Lord's temple with all his life.

He did not practice the difficult JnAna or Bhakthi Yogam and took "the
easiest, effective and fastest route" of Prapatthi with its five angas for
fullest Bhagavadh kaimkaryam. ANdAn just lived with the BhAgavatha
LakshaNams mentioned by this pAsuram of ThoNdaradippodi AzhwAr. He also
resided inside the temple as indicated by the AzhwAr ( un kadaitthalai
irundhu Vaazhum Sombhar).

Swami Desikan appears to have chosen SrI ANDAn as "sOmbar " for all these
reasons in his Rahasya work reminding himself of ThoNdaradippodi AzhwAr's
paasuram.
All errors and faults are mine. Anything good - the credit goes to Sri U Ve
Rama Desikachariar Swamy for his excellent commentary.
Thanks agin for your post. With the blessings of asmadhAchAryan and
Bhagawath sankalpam, someday, adiyEn would like to enjoy all pAsurams of
Thirumaalai one by one with you all sharing adiyEn's pleasure of reading
Sri UttamUr Swamy's brilliant commentary referring to PoorvAchAryAs great
vyAkhyAnams in accordance with saasthrAs.
AzhwAr AchAryAs ThiruvadgaLE SaraNam

Namo Narayana
