My thanks to Badri again for a most insightful translation.

The portion that comes after my last post was actually the
first excerpt I posted, and has been translated by several 
people.  Here is the meaning once again:

    For the upliftment of earthly beings, in the beautiful city
    of Ayodhya, was born the beacon light of the Surya dynasty,
    as the dear baby of Kausalya, as Dasaratha's son, the 
    embodiment of all glorious qualities,

After this, sri periya vaaccaan piLLai continues:

manthirangoL maRai munivan vELvikaakka nadandhu,
vandhu edhirndha thaatakai than uraththaik keeRi
vallarakkar uyiruNdu, kallaip peNNaakki,

irupaththorukaal arasu kaLaikatta mazhuvaaLi vevvari
naR silaivaangi vanRi koNdu avan thavaththai muRRunceRRu,
ambonetu maNimaada ayOdhdhi eydhi ariyaNaimEl
mannanaavaan niRka;
