The following is my translation of a notice that appeared
in the Masi issue of Sri Nrusimha Priya.  The Tamil text
is reproduced at the bottom of this post.

===========Translation of Sri NP article==========

              Distressing and Condemnable

What follows is an article that appeared in the periodical
"Sri Vaishnava Sudharsanam".  Some subscribers and
scholars have confirmed these events.


     Panchami Theertha Mahosthsavam at Thiruchanur

We had the good fortune to participate and worship in
this uthsavam right from the start on November 23, 1995
(Thursday) until the "Theerthavaari" on November 27,
1995 (Monday).  Many observed with sadness that
"Thayar" was adorned with eight hands with "viboothi"
stripes on Her forehead, in the form of Durgai.  This is a
new turn of events.  On another occasion, it seems
"Thayar" was decorated with a cup (kiNNi).  Many felt
this was the form of Annapurani.  On other occasions a
spear with "viboothi" stripes was seen above the chakram
in Thayar's vehicle (vahanam).  Knowledgeable people
have confirmed that these are new practices.  The two
pontiffs of Kanchi Kamakoti peetam have participated in
these utsavams.  They were seen repeatedly led into the
sanctum sanctorum of the Thayar's shrine.  These
indicate that the two pontiffs are behind this.   All Sri
Vaishnavas must protest these unconscionable acts.
Those with the ability to write in English, go ahead and
write a letter of protest with a request to put a stop to
these activities that are contrary to the Sri Vaishnava
Agama traditions.  Here are the addresses to which the
letters may be sent:

     Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh

3.   Minister for Hindu Religious Endowments
     Secretariat, Hyderabad.


Vaishnavas and Saivas have separate temple worship
traditions called Agamas.  Temples worship must follow
the relevant Agama.  Vaikanasa practices must not be
introduced in the Srivaishnava temples that traditionally
follow Paancharathra Agama.  Similarly, Paancharathra
practices should be kept out of temples that follow
Vaikanasa Agama.


We fully support Sri Sudharasanam Swamy's call for
action against the Thiruchanur incidents.  This must be
condemned not just by Vaishnavas, but by all religiously
minded individuals.

vaiNava, saiva, aagamangaL thaniththani.  andhandha
kOvilgaLil adhaRku ERRa aagamangaLinpadithaan
vazhipaadu nadakka vENdum.  vaiNavak kOvilgaLilEyE
paancharaathrak kOvilgaLil vaikaan^aSa aagamappadi vazhipaadu
koodaathu.  adhanpadiyE, vaikaan^aSak kOvilgaLil
paancharaathra aagamappadi vazhipaadu nadappathu koodaathu.

Svaamiyin aRaikoovalukku engaL muzhu aatharavu
