What is a pitr-devata? I have not been able to perfectly understand the
status of a pitr after the jiiva sheds of it's mortal coils.
I do know that the Garuda purAna is recited during the antima samskAram-s.

I would appreciate a detailed exposition on this matter. Thanks in advance.
