Exploring Interest in Sponsoring a Lecture Tour

Srimathe Ramanujaya Namaha:

Dear Athmabhandus,

As many of you know, Sri Elayavalli Bhuvarahachariar Swami is one of
the great exponents of the Shrivaishnava literature. Born in Alwar
Tirunagari, the birth place of Swami Nammalwar himself, he has
absorbed this literature in the traditional manner from his father
and uncle who were themselves well known exponents. He retired as the
Head of the Dept of Sanskrit at St.Joseph's college at Bangalore.
Even while in service, he used to devote his mornings and evenings to
kalakshepams. Now he has settled down in Bangalore and is devoting
his entire time for this purpose. All through the year, he is engaged
in Bhagavadvishaya kalakshepam. During the month of Maargazhi he is
one of the most sought after exponent for his discourses on
Thiruppavai. His phenomenal memory and ability to speak easily in
chaste Tamil with endless quotations from religious works both in
Tamil and Sanskrit have amazed and endeared him to all who are
fortunate to hear his discourses.

One of his great qualities is transcending the barriers of "kalai"
as is obvious to anyone who has heard him quoting both Swami Desikan
and Swami Manavalamamunigal.

Ever since I came to USA, at which point I had to discontinue
attending his weekly kaalakshepam at Bangalore, I have been thinking
about the possibility of arranging his lecture tour to this part of
the world. Recently, I had a chance to communicate with him in
connection with a Nalayira Sevakalam that is scheduled to take place,
God willing, in Bangalore in Jan 2000. During this correspondence, I
mustered enough courage to enquire if he would be willing to consider
making a lecture tour to this part of the world. He wrote saying that
if there is enough interest in this part of the world to
Shrivaishnava discourses he would be happy to accept an invitation. I
thought posting this on the Bhakthi list would be one of the first
steps that I should take to explore the interests of people.

I request interested members to send me email with their comments and
suggestions at their earliest. Depending on the interest shown from
different parts of the country to host him, we can come up with the
funding needed to sponsor his trip. It is important for me to get a
rough idea about the interest before I meet him personally in
Bangalore in the third week of January.

For those of you who have not heard his discourses, I have put up an
audio web site with excerpts from one his discourses on Ashtashloki -
Charamashloka Rahasyam at the following web site:

http://namperumal.tripod.com/AShloki.ram

Second part of this lecture will be available soon. Please note that
you need realplayer to listen to this.

I look forward to your responses soon.

Ramanuja Dasi

Sriranganayaki.
