the debate over the aitihyams -- and a change

From the Bhakti List Archives

• December 4, 2001

Dear Members,

The discussion has gone far enough and the level of discourse
has sunk to a level which is below what I would expect for
this group. I am extremely disappointed by the emotional
responses from nearly all the participants, and by the poor
reading comprehension of those who have misunderstood the
intentions of several participants' messages.

In any case, if anything good will come out of this, it
is this. The unneeded and unscholarly emotionalism triggered by
this controversy has forced me to think deeply about how to
elevate the level of thought and discourse that goes on
on the Bhakti List. I am nearing some conclusion about
what needs to be done. Before the sacred month of Margazhi
begins, I will announce a drastic restructuring of the
Bhakti List. I am finalizing the details as I write this.

We have come a long way in the 7+ years since this group
was started. Unfortunately, in many ways we are worse off
than when we began. Petty, clannish disputes, unaided by
clear thinking, keep cropping up. The most disturbing trend
is the apparent lack of interest in Truth.

I don't know if what I am going to propose will solve the
problem. But I feel at this point it is worth a shot.

With regards to all,
ramanuja dasan,
Mani
