On this auspicious day I request you all to offer your prayers to Lord Sri
Krishna and read this translation of Gita Mahatmyam to remember the ever
soothing divine words which are a panacea for all of us tormented by the
travails of samsara.

Gita shastram idam punyam yah pateth prayatah puman
vishnoh padam avapnoti bhaya shokadi varjitah

One who studies Gita shastra with interest attains the supreme abode of
Vishnu where there is no fear or sorrow.

Gitadhyayana shilasya pranayama parasya cha
naiva santhi hi papani purva janma kritani cha

The sins committed in this life and the previous births are all destroyed
for the one who reads Gita and practises pranayama daily.

Mala nirmochanam pumsam jala snanam dine dine
sakrit gitambhasi snanam samsara malanashanam

Like how bathing daily removes dirt, immersing ourselves daily in the stream
of Gita washes away all the difficulties of samsara

Gita sugita kartavya kim anyaih shastra vistaraih
ya svayam padmanabhasya mukha padma vinisrita

Gita has to be mastered well; what is the use of all other details of
shastras
For, Gita is the spoken words of The Primeval divine Lord Padmanabha who
supports even the Creator of this universe - Bramha on his navel.

Bharatamrita-sarvasvam vishnorvaktrat vinisritam
Gita gangodakam pitva punarjanma na vidyate

>From the divine lord Vishnu's speech came forth the essence of Mahabharata.
One who drinks the waters of the holy Gita-ganges, will not be born again

sarvopanishado gavo dogdha gopala nandanah
partho vatsah sudheer bhokta dugdham gitamrtam mahat

All the essence of the Upanisads was milked by the cowherd boy Gopala;
Arjuna is the calf (pretext); The ones who benefit from this nectarean Gita
are the intelligent ones.

ekam shastram devaki putra gitam eko devo devaki putra eva
eko mantrah tasya namani yani karmapyekam tasya devasya seva

There is only one scripture - the one sung by Lord Sri Krishna; there is
only one God - the son of Devaki (Krishna); there is only one "mantra" - the
names of that divine lord; there is only one action to be performed -
service of that divine lord .

On this day, I thank all my gurus who have taught me and those "kind"
participants of Gita lectures who are again teaching me in a different way,
the ever soothing words of gita - which should never be forgotten. The only
mistake I commit often is to forget those divine words. Let us all study
Gita and enrich our lives.

adiyen Krishna Kalale
