   Dear BhAgavatas,
         namO namah.
Thanks to SrI Narasimhan for his series of excellent postings
on SrI MaNavALa MAmunigaL.
SrI JIyar's eight principle disciples were known as "ashta
diggaja"s.

      vAnAdri yOgivara VEnkata yOgivarya
      SrI bhattanAtha muni vAdi bhayankarAryAh
      rAmAnujArya varadArya natArtihAri

THis SlOkam gives an account of the eight chief disciples of SrI
mahAmunigaL, punaravatArarUpI of BhagavadrAmAnujar.
They are : 1. vAnamAmalai jIyar 2.TiruvEngada rAmAnuja JIyar
          3.paravastu bhattar pirAn JIyar 4.P B aNNan
          5.appiLLai 6.kOil kandAdai aNNan 7.kidAmbi appuLLAn
          8.erumbiappA.

SrI JIyar had served as JIyar of Tirupati mutt for quite some time and he
later entrusted this kainkaryam to "KELvi appan" TiruvEngada JIyar.
(From "Tirumalai ozhugu", translated into Telugu as "Tirumala
samayAchAramulu" by Sri N C V Narasimhacharyulu and Sri T A
Krishnamacharyulu)

SrI maNavALa mAmunigaL's SrI rAma mangaLASAsanam is a lovely stOtram on
our most loving Chakravarti SrI kumAran and is as beautiful and powerful
as vAlmIki rAmAyaNam and his disciple SrI P B aNNan's mangaLASAsanam to
Lord arangan standing majestically(in Tirumangaimannan's words as
translated by SrImAn Madhavakkannan!) on TiruvEnkatam.

SrI JIyar's lips were always seen chanting dvayam
restlessly(mantraratnAnusandhAna santata sphuritAdharam- erumbiappA's
"pUrva dinacharyA" of SrI MaNavALa mAmunigaL).
