thiruk kaNNan kudi - History - purANam

My namskArams to the thirup pAthak kamalangaL of the
baktha kOdi bAgawathALs. I seek the forgiveness
of Sriman V. Sadagopan as I failed to acknowledge
that he has also written a wonderful thala
purAnam details of thiru kaNNa puram earlier.

The five Sri Krishna AraNya kshEthram are

1. thiruk kaNNa mangai
2. thiruk kaNNa puram
3. kabisthalam
4. thiruk kOviloor
5. thiruk kannan kudi

This is one of the panch krishna AranyA kshEthram
that is among the 108 Divya dEsams. This is
situated in tanjore district near thiruvArur
between nagappattinam and thiruvarur. One can
reach Kumbakonam by train from Madras and travel
to thiruvArur from Kumbakonam by bus which
frequent (1 hour). One can also reach Kumbakonam
(more buses are available to kumbakonam) or
thiruvaroor by bus from Madras.

Five miles away from thiru aaroor there is a
village known as Azhiyoor. This kshEthram is
closer to this place. One can also reach Azhiyoor
in the bus line between thiruth thuRai pooNdi
and nAgappattinam. One can also take a train from
thiru aroor and get down at keezh vElur and reach
this place from there.

Sri Garuda purAnam and Sri nAratha purAnam
discusses the thala varaLARu or puRAnam of this
kshEthram in great deatil. In Sri Garuda purAnam,
the fifth chapter has 320 slOkams on this
kshEthram alone.
