Srimate SrivanSatakopa Sri Vedanta Desika Yatindra
Maha Desikaya Nama:

Teliyatha Marai Nilangal Teligindrome-15

The next mantra, the 12th, explains that Emperuman
is the antaryami of all beings. The glorious Lord, who
first took birth as HiranyagarbhA, pervades all
objects, living and non-living, in all directions,
and resides in them as their inner-dweller or
antaryami.
"Esha hi deva: pradisOnu sarvA: poorvO he jata: sa u
garhE anta:"
Paramatma's antaryamitvam, and the relationship of
body and soul , between Him and His creations
(shareerAtma bhAvam), which are the corner stones of
our Sri VisishtAdvaita sampradAyA, are succinctly
stated by Sri Nammazhwar thus-
  "udal misai uyirena karandengum paranduLan"
"karanda sil idantorum idam tigazh poruL torum
   karandu engum paranduLan "
The second half of the mantra refers to His birth as
the multifarious components of Creation- human
beings, animals, birds, reptiles, etc- that are now in
existence and those which will come into being in
future, and His pervading all of them as their inner
dweller, by residing in their jeevAtmAs.
  "sa vijAyamAna: sa janishyamANah: pratyangmukhA:
tishttati visvatO mukha:"

Emperuman's role as the material cause of this
Universe, past, present and future, and as the
antaryami of everything, is described by Parankusa
Muni in Tiruvaimozhi-

"engum tAnAya nangal nAthanE"
"man pal uyirgaLumAgi"
"nilai varambila pala pirappAi"
"Amavai Ayavai ay nindra avarE"
"ivayaum avayum uvayum ivarum aarum uvarum
evayum evarum tannuLLE aagiyum aakkiyum kAkkum
avayuL tani mudal emmAn kaNNapirAn" etc.

The 13th mantra is also to be found in the Taittiriya
Samhita, and with slight variations , in the
SvEtAsvatarOpanishad and Atharva Veda too. Here it is-
"visvata: chakshu: uta visvatO mukhO visvatO hasta
uta visvataspAt.
The purport here is that Paramatma, being the
material and efficient cause and inner dweller of
all beings ,is said to have faces, eyes, hands and
feet everywhere. As the ruler and guide of all beings,
He is the user of their limbs and senses. This
multiplicity in Paramatma's organs is stated thus by
Sri Nammazhwar –
 "tOlgaL AyiratthAi,mudigaL AyiratthAi tuNai malar
kaNgal AyiratthAi, tAlgaL AyiratthAi pErgal
AyiratthAi"
With His multiple limbs aiding Him, He creates the
heavens and earth-"dyAvA prithivi janayan dEva Eka:"

And these are the relative Tiruvaimozhi panktis-
"munneer gyAlam padaittha em mugil vaNNanE"
"vaiyam vAnam manisar deivam matrum Â… ivai
padaitthAn" etc.

  -to be continued- dasan,sadagopan.
